After traveling quite a bit in July, and preparing to travel more in August, as much I enjoy traveling and visiting new places, it’s nice to have some time to settle back in at home in familiar surroundings, and catch up with friends.  In the area where I live, there is a lovely town center full of shops and restaurants, and because it was close to my home, it was perfect for a lunch reconnect with a few friends.

For last week’s lunch, I decided to try a little 70’s vibe attire.  It’s no secret I’m a big fan of the jumpsuit.  They have made an appearance on my blog many times, here, here, here, here, and here.  However, this time I opted for a style that was a little different from my other jumpsuits with a somewhat distinct retro feel.  I paired this Coco & Jameson Crochet Trim Wide Leg Jumpsuit, with my Hinge ‘Hannah’ Wedge Sandals, and my Tori Burch Crossbody bag.   Because 70’s fashion is often described as incorporating flares, jazzy prints, and crochet, to me, this jumpsuit definitely had that retro 70’s feel with it’s crochet accents, unique print, and wide legs.  Of course, adding the wedge sandal complimented the look and the 70’s vibe.

Over the past year, fashion has certainly seen an increase in influences from the 70’s, making the retro look very current, so in today’s “Style Guide”, I’m sharing Tips For Rocking A Retro Look.

Style Guide:  Tips For Rocking A Retro Look

Choose Earth Tones – 70’s fashions are known for incorporating classic earth tones like different shades of brown, cream, khakis, golds, warm yellows, hues of sand, antique reds, denim blues, and oranges.  Any mix of these earthy colors are sure to make a perfect 70’s look.

Go For Bold Prints and Patterns –  To add a little spice to the earth tones, look for items that include stand out prints like geometric shapes, ethnic prints, abstract designs, and florals.  Earth tones combined with distinctive patterns truly equal a retro feel.

Add A Touch of Crochet, Lace or Macrame’ – These oh so lovely and romantic accents definitely define that chic style of the 70’s.  Touches of these fabrics can be added as accessories, clothing trims, or added details to any piece to give your look that cool and very groovy feel.

Stick With Simple Designs and Shapes – Classic and simple silhouettes are characteristic of the 1970’s fashion.  Minimalist designs of the 70’s allow for the fabric detail and patterns to be highlighted, while also showcasing the chic femininity of the look.

I hope my “Style Guide” tips will help you feel comfortable rocking your retro look.
