As my daily calendar starts to fill with end of year appointments, holiday events, and social gatherings, wardrobe planning has become even more essential to helping me manage these obligations with ease.  When things  get a little busy for me, I always try to rely on a few wardrobe basics, keeping a neutral pallet, and adding a pop of print to make an outfit work quickly.  For me, plaid is that perfect print that can add style to any look.

For a day that involved a variety of activities, I paired a favorite from Forever 21, this Longline Plaid Coat, with my already planned neutral outfit that included this Forever 21 Cable Knit Sweater, and my Limited Drew Fit Classic Flare pants.  I added my navy suede D’Orsay pumps from Zara, and my Rebecca Minkoff Mini Quilted Affair bag.  The plaid coat was perfect to compliment this outfit, because it added both a pop of print and color, and it allowed me to keep the classic feel throughout the entire look.  Because plaid has been really popular this year, and since it’s often considered a power print to have in your wardrobe, I thought in today’s “Style Guide”, I would share a few ways to pair plaid.

Style Guide:  Ways To Pair Plaid

Pair Plaid With A Lighter Fabric – To add a little femininity to a plaid print, pair a plaid shirt with a silk skirt for an ultra-femme look.

Pair Plaid With A Dress Or Pants – For a classic look, pair a plaid blazer or coat over a airy dress or a nice pair of pants.  This perfect pairing will give your outfit a traditional yet fashion forward feel.

Layer Your Plaid – Wear a plaid shirt under a cable knit sweater with your favorite jeans for a classic casual outfit.

Pair Your Plaid With Leather – Pair a plaid dress with a leather jacket and black tights for a super stylish look. More
