As promised on last week’s “Beauty Day,” this week, I’m excited to share an at home beauty tool, that to me, gives spa treatment results.  The beauty tool is the PMD – Personal Microdermabrasion unit.  I have been using this tool for over a year regularly, and today I’m sharing the benefits I have experienced, and how to use it.

Do you ever notice your skin looking a little dull, lackluster, or just lacking a youthful glow?  Well, usually for me, the remedy is a microdermabrasion treatment with my PMD – Personal Microdermabrasion unit.  As you may or may not be aware, microdermabrasion is a gentle exfoliation of dead skin cells from the uppermost layer of skin, using IMG_2794.jpgaluminum oxide crystals to exfoliate the skin.  This skin rejuvenating treatment is offered in day spa’s, medical spa’s and dermatologist offices, however, when I’m traveling and/or I’m just too busy to schedule or fit in an appointment (which is often), this at home microdermabrasion treatment does the trick for me.  It’s convenient, easy to use, and effective, and the results for me are comparable to my in office treatments.

The PMD – Personal Microdermabrasion unit uses the same aluminum oxide crystals embedded in the top that are used in the machines found in spa’s and doctor’s offices.  It promotes cell renewal and rejuvenation using the combination of exfoliation plus suction providing what I consider immediate results.

Here are a few general benefits of microdermabrasion:

Microdermabrasion can help to give you more younger, vibrant, glowing skin.

Microdermabrasion can be one of the easiest and most effective anti-aging IMG_2796.jpgtreatments you can get.

Microdermabrasion can soften fine lines and wrinkles.

Microdermabrasion can help smooth coarsely textured skin, and help decrease the appearance of scarring.

    Microdermabrasion can decrease pore size.

Microdermabrasion can reduce superficial hyper-pigmentation, also known as age spots.

Microdermabrasion can also make it easier for your skin care products to penetrate into the deep layers of the skin to help build collagen, helping to give skin a more youthful appearance.

How I use the PMD – Personal Microdermabrasion unit:

First off, the PMD – Personal Microdermabrasion unit is not a daily treatment.  It is a once a week or every other week treatment depending on your skin sensitivity (recommended to wait 6-7 days between treatments).  Because I also use the Clarisonic facial cleansing brush, I do not use these tools on consecutive days.  I usually wait two to three days between the tools, and resume using the cleansing brush daily IMG_2798.jpguntil it is time for my microdermabrasion treatment. (e.g., Sunday – microdermabrasion treatment; Wednesday or Thursday begin using Clarisonic facial cleansing brush).

Step 1:  I remove all make up from my skin with my favorite facial cleansing cloths, Philosophy Purity Made Simple one-step facial cleansing cloths.

Step 2:  I prepare my skin for treatment, by washing my face with a gentle cleanser, and let it dry completely.

Step 3:  I connect the power cord, and choose a disc for the treatment.  I personally use the disc for sensitive skin (blue disc), or the medium strength abrasion (green disc).  The unit also has a large disc that can be used specifically on the body.

Step 4:  I follow the instructions provided with the unit, and pull the skin tight in the treatment area (forehead, cheek, chin, etc.,) and move the PMD Personal Microderm unit in an upward motion across the skin, being sure not to make more than two passes over one area during the treatment.

IMG_2791.jpgStep 5:  Following the treatment, I use a toner to neutralize the ph balance of my skin, and follow with a moisturizer.

There are very detailed instructions and an instructional DVD included with the unit to help you quickly learn to use the unit.

I hope you found this information helpful.  Now, let’s get glowing!

I love this post! I have the PMD as well, but I’ve only used it once before. Your post is a great reminder to give it another try!
