This spring and summer, the dress will be a closet go-to for us all. They can be cool, comfortable, highly fashionable, and suitable for any occasion. With so many dress styles available, how do you know which style is best for your body type. Today, I’ll share a few tips for finding the right dress for your figure.
To start, find your body type below, and read on to see which dress style will be most flattering for your figure.
1. Straight – Believe it or not, this is the most common body type. Over 45% of American women have a straight figure. The straight figure is defined by balanced busts and hips with no definition in the waist. The best dress types for this figure are fitted or belted sheath dresses, and A-line or baby doll styles. These dress styles add definition and curves. Check out the styles below for this body type.

2. Pear – A pear body type is also sometimes referred to as the triangle body type. This body shape is defined by hips being larger than the bust, and the waist being nicely defined. The arms, shoulders and neck are usually slender. The best dress types for this figure are fitted, open-neck or strapless tops to bring the eye upward, and full or A-line skirts help to camouflage wider hips. Consider these styles for this body type.

3. Hourglass – This is the body type most women love. This figure is defined by balanced bust and hips with a defined waist. The best dress types for this figure are wrap and knit dresses with fitted waists. This wrap dress is perfect for this body type.

4. Apple – This body type is defined by the legs and hips being slim, while the chest and abdomen are more visible in comparison to the rest of the body. This figure also usually has broad shoulders . The best dress types for this figure are Empire and baby-doll waist dresses that draw the eye upward and away from the mid section. The looser fit of full skirts and A-line styles can help to give the illusion of curves and an hourglass shape. This A-line dress is an ideal shape for this figure.

5. Full Bust – The full bust body type is defined by busts that are larger in comparison to the narrow hips, and the waist is not well defined. The best dress types for this figure are V and U shaped necklines that focus the eyes downward drawing attention away from the bust area for a slimmer appearance. Halters with added bra support are also great, as they can provide the perfect coverage. A-lines and full skirts are perfect for this body type because they provide some balance from the top to bottom. This high neck/halter effect dress will work perfectly for this body type.
