If you are planning a beach vacation, a weekend getaway, or a day by the pool, a cover up is surely an essential item to have.  Depending on the type of cover up you choose, it can serve multiple purposes for a visit to the beach.  This day on Oahu, was our day to take in the beach, enjoy activities around our hotel, and just relax, so for me a beach dress/cover up was great for the day.  We reserved covered lounge chairs on our hotels private beach, had lunch at the beach bar, shopped at the hotel’s gift shops, and with the exception of my husband, Torrence, being adventurous and going paddle boarding, we simply relaxed the afternoon away.

This ASOS beach dress was perfect for the day we had planned.  It served as both a cool and comfortable beach dress, and a swimsuit cover up as well.  The colors are so bright and vibrant they just gave me that island vibe I wanted for a day at the beach, and it transitioned well from the beach to lunch, to shopping.  The other great thing I love about this cover up, is that it’s not just reserved for the beach, it also works well for relaxing by a pool anytime.

If you’re looking for that perfect cover up, here are a few tips on choosing one that’s right for you.

Choose fabric that is easy to care for – With a cover up, you shouldn’t have to worry about it getting wet, or it not looking so good after taking it on and off a few times, so pick a fabric that is lightweight and low maintenance.

Pick the perfect style for you – If you want to show off your legs, go with a shorter cover up, and if you want to show off your arms, pick a longer cover up with a neckline or straps that accentuate your arms.

Stick with a sheer fabric for fuller cover ups – If you like the look and feel of cover ups with a little volume, try to stick with sheer, flowing fabrics with a slight fit or taper somewhere in the bodice.

Go for some color – Nothing says tropical or gives you a little island flare more than color.  Pick a color that works well with your swimsuit, and that looks great with your skin tone.
