Bottom:  Banana Republic Printed Handkerchief Circle Skirt (Now On Sale)

Bag:  Steve Madded BJAXX Crossbody Bag – Grey (Now On Sale)

Sunglasses:  Kate Spade Gala Sleek Wayfarer

As a self proclaimed lover of skirts, especially midi skirts, I was so excited when I found this handkerchief hem skirt that combined the classic length of a midi with the flowing femininity of a handkerchief hem.  Now, the fact that this skirt is in a few of my favorite colors, black, white and gray, were simply a bonus.  The handkerchief hemline is somewhat of a play off the high low skirt, and this hemline can even be found on dresses, cardigans and tops.

When deciding what to wear with this Banana Republic Printed Handkerchief Circle Skirt, I knew I wanted to pair it with a color and style that would allow the skirt to stand out.  I chose this black Loft Tie Neck Blouse, that I simply love, and added one of my recently purchased most favorite pair of shoes, these Ann Taylor Tara Fringe Suede Sandals, and my Steve Madden BJAXX Crossbody bag.  I also added my go-to Kate Spade Gala Wayfarer Sunglasses.  My goal with this look was to highlight the skirt, while also adding classic pieces that grounded the skirt, but also added some texture.

If you’re thinking the handkerchief hem skirt is not necessarily for you, in today’s “Style Guide”, I’m sharing a few reasons why you might like the hanky hem.

Style Guide:  Why You Might Like The Hanky Hem

The Handkerchief Hem Skirt Shows Minimal Leg:  For those of you who prefer to show very little leg, the handkerchief hem is perfect for you.  This skirt style covers some of the leg without being full length or overwhelming.

The Handkerchief Hem Skirt Draws Eyes Downward:  If you prefer to wear clothes that do not draw attention to your hips and thighs, then you will love this hem style.  Attention is focused mostly on the points and flares of the hem instead of the hip and thigh area.

The Handkerchief Hem Skirt Is Feminine And Flowy:  If you like fuller skirts with movement, then you will definitely like the handkerchief hem.  The jagged hem creates visually interesting lines on the body, and adds a little volume that tends to be quite flowy and flattering.

The Handkerchief Hem Skirt Is Usually Found In Lightweight Fabrics:  If you are a fan of fabric with a little movement, you will most likely like the handkerchief hem skirts.  Most handkerchief skirts are created in a soft silky, or delicate knitted and woven fabric that sways and moves.

I hope you’re inspired to try the handkerchief hem skirt, and feel free to share how you would style your hanky hem skirt in the comments section below.

I love all of your outfits. And this skirt is my style! I have a solid black one very similar. And I always wear it with a crop top that stops right at the waist. I will have to try it the way you styled it too, because it looks great on you!

I love your skirt!!! It’s in some of my favorite colors too! I’ve been looking for a pair of black fringe shoes, and all I’ve seen lately are colors. Love these from Ann Taylor!

This skirt is really pretty! I have a green one from Banana Republic, and I wore it with a boxy black top. I like the way you styled it with the blouse and fringe shoes. Like another person who commented said, so classic chic!
