  • Oahu’s North Shore & New Year’s Reflections

    Outfit Details:

Top/Bottom:  One Shoulder Beach Sundress (Now On Sale)

If you follow Lulu With Grace on Instagram or Facebook, then you are already aware that my husband and I spent the last ten days of 2017 in Oahu, visiting our son who attends the University of Hawaii.  Not only was this visit great family time, but it was also the perfect time and place to unplug and reflect on the things we are grateful for, as well as the things we would like to accomplish in the new year.  During our time in Oahu, we spent one full day on the island’s North Shore, which was the perfect place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, and enjoy the island’s countryside.

Stretching more than seven beautiful miles, the beaches of the North Shore are most known for their amazing waves, and for playing host to the world’s premier surfing competitions during the peak winter months.  The North Shore is approximately a one hour drive from Waikiki, and boasts a variety of accommodations, great places to eat (one of my personal favorites is Lei Lei’s at Turtle Bay Resort), and tourist attractions, as well as several beautiful beaches, like the one we stumbled on today.  We spent some time taking in the tremendous waves, walking the beautiful beach, and simply reflecting on our plans for the new year.  Over the years, I have become less and less of a new year’s resolution person, and more of a reflection person, spending more time exploring specific ways to improve and grow in my life in general.

If you’re like me this year, and you’re more focused on a game plan for life, instead of making annual resolutions, here are just a few suggested steps I’m personally using, that may help get you started.

Determine Your Destination – To me, the first step to accomplishing anything is to figure out exactly where you want to go.  Once you determine what you want your life to look like in general, you can then begin the process of getting there.

Pick Your Path – With anything, there can be multiple ways to get to what you want or where you want to be.  To me, for success, it is important to pick a path that works for your life and lifestyle, and most importantly to stay on that path.

Plan Your Steps – Plan to take steps toward your destination that actually fit into your life, and that you can actually put into action.  Write down the things you would like to see occur, and the steps you will take to make them happen.  Having the steps written down will give you something to review if you find yourself getting off track.

Assess Your Success – As you begin to make progress, it’s important to recognize your successes along the way, and use them as motivation to keep going.  Once you reach your destination, it’s also important to reflect on how you got there, and apply those steps for continued growth.

I hope today’s post has inspired you to reflect on your personal goals for the new year, and also provided a few steps to help you reach them.  For this day at the beach, I wore this simple one shoulder beach sundress.  You can shop this item or some of the other beach dresses I love (all on sale), by clicking the photos below in “Shop This Post,or by visiting the “Shop Fashion” page here.

Happy New Year, and as always, thanks for reading!
