One of my favorite things to wear this time of year is a sundress. With temperatures soaring where I live, it’s so nice to have a few grab and go sundresses that can be worn for anything from running errands to a date night dinner. On weekends, my husband and I enjoy taking strolls through our neighborhood park and feeding the ducks. Although, the ducks were more interested in staying cool in the lake than eating, we were prepared, and we just enjoyed watching them play and cool off under the waterfall.
I wore this Loft Embroidered Strapless Maxi Sundress for our time in the park, and for the other things we had planned for the day. I added my Ann Taylor Kellen Exotic Embossed Slides, that simply added to the relaxed and comfortable feel of the day. I purchased this maxi sundress because it was not only perfect for my summer travels, but to me, it is a one piece wonder that can be worn for so many different things. It is so lightweight and airy, and it is perfect for these warm weather days most of us are experiencing. The Ann Taylor slides are super comfortable, and they work well with anything from sundresses and skirts, to shorts and beach pants. Although the color I’m wearing is sold out, there are two very versatile colors (white and signature navy) still available.
As much as we are all hoping the hot days of summer will come to an end, depending on where you live, there are probably a few more weeks of warm weather left, so now is a great time to purchase summer clothing that is now on sale, and wear it now, or stock up for next summer. When buying a maxi sundress, here are a few tips for picking the right one for your body type in today’s “Style Guide”.
Style Guide: How To Pick The Right Maxi Sundress For Your Body Type
Curvy Body Type – Embrace your natural curves, and choose a maxi dress that will show off your assets, and select a dress that accentuates your waistline. Try to avoid skinny straps or ruffles and embellishments that may highlight any problem areas.
Petite Body Type – Pick sundresses that give the illusion of length. Sundresses with high waistlines, or high-low lengths (shorter in front and longer in back) elongates the body. Add heels or wedges to lengthen the body and the fabric, and to ensure the dress does not overwhelm the body.
Pear Shape Body Type – The pear shape is often defined as a body type with a larger hip area. To find the right maxi dress for this body type, steer clear of dresses that draw attention to this area of your body. Pick a dress with an embellished top to draw the eye upward, and find dresses that skim the body to even out the shape and not accentuate the hips.
Boyish Body Type – If you have an athletic frame, find dresses with narrow bottoms to make the body appear longer and leaner. Pick dresses that show off your arms and shoulders like strapless dresses or dresses with spaghetti straps.
Top Heavy Body Type – The loose and long draping of a maxi dress works well for this body type. Try dresses with a V-neck that shows off the collarbone area. Also, cap-sleeved dresses and dresses with wide straps are ideal because they conceal bra straps, and they add extra support and boost.
