If you’re like me, you’re starting to find going to shopping malls less and less attractive everyday, and you also don’t particularly enjoy driving around searching for parking, rummaging through racks of clothing to find your size, and waiting in line to make a purchase.  In short, shopping in malls is quickly becoming a thing of the past for me personally, because the experience is just not what it used to be.  It appears I’m not alone in this sentiment, business analysts estimate that by 2022, 1 out of every 4 malls could be out of business as more and more people are embracing online shopping, in fact, many retailers are scaling back on inventory in stores, saving money on store space, and enhancing their online shopping services.

Shopping online can often seem like a challenge, but once you figure out your favorite stores, determine your sizing for brands offered by those stores, and watch the stores for free shipping offers, the process can be a lot easier.  Shopping for some pieces online like tops and dresses can be somewhat less of a challenge, but shopping for bottoms can often require a little more attention to detail, so in today’s “Style Guide,” I’m sharing a guide to buying pants online.

Style Guide:  A Guide To Buying Pants Online

Know Your Measurements – The first step in ordering the perfect fitting pants online, is to know your measurements.  If you are not comfortable with measuring yourself, get friend or a professional tailor to take your measurements.

Take The Right Measurements – For sizing pants, you will need to measure your natural waist (the smallest part of your midsection, not your hips), hips, and your inseam to determine if your size specifies a tall or regular inseam if offered.

Use The Size Guides Provided – Use the size guides provided by retailers, and be sure to check the size guides for each brand you shop, if you are buying from a department store that sells different brands.  Size guides can vary from brand to brand.  In my personal experience, the size guides are very helpful and accurate.

Keep A List Of Your Sizing – Take some time to put your sizing in your phone, on your computer, or in a notebook that you can easily find.  Also, make note of sizes that work well by brand as you gain more online shopping experience. This will make it easier for you to shop that store or brand again in the future.

Always Check The Return Policy For The Store – Make sure you have ample time to receive, try on, and take back or mail back, if necessary, any items that do not work.  If you take advantage of the free shipping offered now by many retailers, you will only need to pay the return shipping if the item does not work out.

Also, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have undoubtedly heard about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale going on until August 5th.  The pants I’m wearing today are part of the sale, and since we’re talking about finding the perfect fitting pants, I’ve put together my pant picks from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and you can check out my pant picks by clicking the link here.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post, and I hope the guide to buying pants online has been helpful for you.  For this look, I paired my Tie Front Collar Shirt with my Side Button Wide Leg Trousers (now on sale), also available in yellow; Additional sizes here; also, love these here.  I accessorized with my Metallic Gold Crossover Mule (old), similar here, and my Bamboo Ark Bag; Mini Version here.  You can shop the specific items I’m wearing or similar items that I love, by clicking the links above in “Outfit Details,” by clicking the photos below in “Shop This Post,” and by visiting the “Shop Fashion” page here.
