When it comes to fashion, everyone has that one type of clothing or accessory they’re constantly drawn to.  Some are shoe people, some are jewelry lovers, and some have a handbag habit.  Now, although, I truly love all types of clothing and accessories, if I had to classify myself, I would definitely say, I’m a coat person.  The interesting thing about my love for coats, is I don’t necessarily live in an area that’s known for having extended periods of cold coat wearing weather, so when I do shop for coats, I try to stay true to my classic style, and go with timeless designs, and neutral colors, that can be worn for several seasons.  One winter essential I feel everyone should have in their cold weather arsenal, is the classic camel coat.  It’s definitely an elegant and refined piece that compliments any outfit from casual to a more dressed look.

For this look, I paired this BR Oversized Camel Double-Breasted Coat, with my Express Long Sleeve Tie Neck Blouse, and my Zara High Waist Black Jeans.  I added my Sole Society ‘Anneke’ Pump, and my Rebecca Minkoff Mini Quilted Affair bag.  I’ve been looking for the perfect camel coat to add to my winter wardrobe for some time, and when I saw this coat, I knew it was the one for me.  I love it’s classic design, and rich color, and the very stylish slightly oversized look allows for easy winter weather layering.  As you’ve seen in some of my more recent posts, the tie neck blouse is one of my favorite styles.  I think it’s a very fashion forward take on an everyday blouse.  They work well paired with everything from jeans to skirts, and can be worn from desk to dinner.  Adding a high waist jean, a stylish pump, and simple bag to complete this outfit was an easy choice, and it allowed me to keep the overall look classic and simple.  Since the camel coat by all accounts is considered a must have for this winter, and because it’s coat buying season, I’m sharing a few tips for buying a coat in today’s “Style Guide”.

Style Guide:  Tips For Buying A Winter Coat

Buy A Coat That Fits Your Style –  When buying a coat, think about your style and lifestyle, and pick a coat that fits both.  Because coats can be expensive, it’s important to select one that that fits your fashion style, and one that is fully functional for your lifestyle.

Pick A Good Color – Choose a neutral color that can be easily worn with almost everything in your closet.  Camel, black, and off white coats are always good choices.  If you want to add color to your winter outerwear, you can always do so with accessories, like scarves, hats, and gloves.

Choose Function Over Fashion – Many coats will look good on hangers, but will they keep you warm.  Choose a coat made of the proper fabric that serves its purpose of being a functional outer wear garment, and that keeps you warm.

Select A Coat That Can Be Easily Accessorized – Because winter coats can be an investment, and will likely be worn year after year, choose a coat that you can easily accessorized, giving it a different look and extending the life of the coat.

I hope these “Style Guide” tips will help you pick the perfect winter coat.
