If you’re like me, and you love gingham, you may have a few of these check print pieces in your closet. From a dress, skirt, pants, and top, gingham can be styled and worn in many ways, and it can even be fun to pair with other items in your wardrobe.
Styling this look was fun for me because the black and white gingham top and white skirt, was the perfect foundation for adding a pop of color. Now, I don’t normally wear a lot of red, not because I’m not a fan of the color, but mainly because my feminine style doesn’t always lend itself to finding many items in this color. When I want to add a pop of red to a look, I often do as I did this day, and add the color in accessories, like the shoes and bag, and sometimes I even incorporate the color in my makeup, like the red lip here.
For styling gingham, I always try to keep it somewhat simple and classic, because that’s the feel gingham evokes for me. I found this Loft Gingham Top a couple of weeks ago, and for this day, I paired it with this ASOS Dahlia Layered Midi Skirt, Gianni Bini Maye Sandal, and added my Micahel Kors Cindy Large Dome Crossbody Bag. I also added my Tom Ford lip color in Flame, which is my go to color when I want to spice up my lip color. I love this top, because as you can see in the photos, I was able to style it a little differently, by sliding the shoulder straps slightly off the shoulder for a bardot neckline. This layered skirt is amazingly cool, and I love it’s movement and contrasting waistband. The Gianni Bini sandals are super comfortable, and they also come in a variety of colors, and my Michael Kors Cindy Crossbody is a staple in my closet because it is definitely a bag that can be worn dressed or casual. The fact that I can wear it as a crossbody bag is a bonus.
Wearing gingham in one piece like a dress, can be easy to style, but because there are so many ways to pair a single gingham piece like a top, in today’s “Style Guide”, I’m sharing just a few simple ways to style your gingham top.
Style Guide: Styling A Gingham Top
Add A White Bottom: Because gingham is typically checked in white with a bold color, adding white on the bottom will give your look a super summer feel, and allow your gingham top to stand out. The white bottom, can be a skirt, pants or shorts.
Pair It With Distressed Denim: For a laid back and comfortable outfit, pair your gingham top with a pair of distressed denim jeans. This pairing can be done with any color gingham shirt, for a chic and casual look.
Layer With A Jacket Or Vest: Because of gingham’s stand out print/pattern, layering it with a denim jacket or a sleeveless vest, adds style and functionality to your look, while still allowing your gingham top to be on center stage.
Pair With Pants: For a casual polished look, tuck your gingham top into a pair of pants, and add some comfortable flats for a pulled together outfit.
