If nothing else, 2020 has definitely highlighted the need for us all to pay more attention to our health and wellness.  As we head into 2021, and we all start to think about how we can get healthier and fit starting now or in the new year, a first step is to set realistic and achievable goals.

Whenever I personally start to set goals, I always begin with why I want to achieve the goal, and then go from there with identifying the steps needed to achieve the goal.  Knowing your “Why” will help to keep you motivated and focused when you start to become discouraged or distracted, so it’s a good place to start, and something to always keep in mind when trying to reach a goal.  Once you have a clear understanding of your “Why,” you can then outline your “How,” which basically identifies the steps or the process you’ll take to reach your goals.  When it comes to health and fitness goals, it’s been proven that you will see more and better results when you start with achievable, specific goals as opposed to just working out without a plan.  So, in today’s post, I’m sharing “5 Tips For Setting Health & Fitness Goals You Can Reach.”

“5 Tips For Setting Health & Fitness Goals You Can Reach”

Break Up Your Goals Into Smaller Parts – For example, instead of setting a large goal of losing 50 pounds in a year, break that down to a pound a week, or four pounds a month to make it more achievable.

Make Your Goals Specific & Measurable – For example, instead of saying you will work out 5 days a week, say, you will work out 5 days a week for 30-60 minutes each session.  This is specific and measurable.

Make Your Goals Realistic & Attainable –  Setting goals that are too large can cause you to get overwhelmed and frustrated, so it’s important to set smaller, more realistic goals, that you can achieve.  Reaching these smaller goals will keep you inspired and motivated.

Put A Time Limit On Reaching Your Goals – Setting a goal to lose 10 pounds, may be a good personal goal for you, but setting that goal without a specific time frame will not necessarily hold you accountable.  Instead, set a time limit on reaching that goal, like a year, to push you and establish a sense of urgency around your goal.

Make Your Goals Meaningful – When setting health and fitness goals, there needs to be some sort of emotional attachment to the goal, which is why it’s important to always start with your “Why.”  This emotional attachment is what will keep you going when you want to give up.

I hope you found this post and these tips helpful, and I hope you will get started on setting your health and fitness goals for now or the new year.  Setting health and fitness goals, and having a plan, is important to living a healthy lifestyle.
