Well, I guess this week should have been called “My Favorite Print” week, because it seems like my fashion posts this week have all featured a print, pattern or fabric that I love. I have come to simply adore polka dots on almost anything, and I’m finding I’m adding more of this perfect print to my wardrobe.
For a meeting last week, I decided to pull out my dots, and I paired this Express Mixed Polka Dot Convertible Sleeve Portofino Shirt, with my ASOS Linen Midi Skirt with Pocket Detail. I added my Steve Madden ‘Stecy’ sandal, and my Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Mini Affair Convertible Crossbody bag, and I was out the door. This Express polka dot top is the perfect top to transition from season to season. It is light and airy enough for summer, and will work well under a blazer or jacket as the season changes. The convertible sleeves are a plus, because you can adjust them to any length that fits your desired look. My ASOS linen midi skirt is definitely on repeat in my closet. To me, it has amazing style with the tie waist and pocket details, and it is perfect to wear dressed or casual. The Steve Madden ankle strap sandal and Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag have both made appearances on the blog before, because they are truly two of my go-to items in my closet to finish off a look.
I personally love polka dots because they can be both playful and chic, and it is such a versatile print to incorporate into any style or look. You can easily find polka dot items, but sometimes we can get stuck on styling them in a look we like. So, in today’s “Style Guide”, I’m sharing a few tips on how to style a polka dot top.
Style Guide: Styling A Polka Dot Top
Pair Dots On Dots: Try pairing your polka dot top with polka dot pants or a dotted skirt. To keep this look interesting and not overwhelming try reversing the pattern colors (i.e, black top with white dots paired with white pants with black dots, etc.).
Try Mixing Prints: Mixing prints is an emerging trend in styling, and pairing a polka dot top with a different print on the bottom is a look that is sure to give your style a lift. The key to pulling off this look, is to combine prints that have similar colors and tones.
Tone Down Your Dots: If you feel like polka dots are a little too much for you, but you want to give them a try, pair your polka dot top with a neutral (cream, khaki, or black) jacket, vest or blazer for a toned down look with a pop of polka dots.
Go Solid On The Bottom: Because polka dots always stand out, pairing a polka dot top with a solid pant or skirt will still elevate your look, and give you a fashion forward feel.
I hope my “Style Guide” tips will help you style your polka dot top.
