Well, now that it looks like cold weather is here to stay where I live, I decided it was time to start doing some winter wear organizing.  As I started to unpack a few sweaters from my winter clothes storage, and merge them with some of the fall/winter weather items I recently purchased, I noticed that I had unknowingly coordinated a few sweaters, hats, and scarves that would easily pair well together, and work with many other items in my winter wardrobe.

When I started pulling out my winter wear items, I started with a few staples.  Hats can be a challenge to organize, so I started with three of my favorites, this burgundy Halogen Grosgrain Trim Fedora, this gray BP Floppy Fedora, and my Phase 3 Faux Fur Pompom Beanie.  I pulled out my recently purchased Nordstrom Plaid Cashmere Scarf to see how it could be paired with these hats, and it worked well with both.  Next, I moved on to a few of my favorite sweaters.  It’s definitely clear that I like neutral palettes when it comes to sweaters.  The first sweater I pulled out was my BR Off White Sweater.  I bought this sweater last year, and I love pairing it with off white pants or jeans.  Next, was my BR Pink Turtleneck Sweater, and my recently purchased Mixed-Stitch Gray Turtleneck Sweater.  Lastly I grabbed my black Ann Taylor Chunky Knit Sweater, and added it to my column of sweater staples.  Once I started unpacking and pairing these winter wear items, I realized, I needed to begin to organize everything, so in today’s “Style Guide”, I thought I would share a few tips on how to organize your winter wear.

Style Guide:  Winter Wear Organizing Tips

Sort First:  Go through your winter clothing items, and select those items that are winter staples and those that you more than likely will not wear this season.  You can limit clutter, and wardrobe selection uncertainty, by only organizing things in your closet that will be used. Remember “Less is more”.

Prioritize – Put any items that will be worn less frequently in the back of your closet or shelf, and place the items that will be worn more frequently in the front for easy access.

Select The Perfect Placement – Since you are likely to grab winter wear accessories last to complete a look, place your hats, scarves, and wraps at the front of the closet.  This will also make it easy to locate them when planning a outfit.

Color Coordinate – When possible try to keep colors, or groups of colors, like neutrals stacked or hung together for easy wardrobe styling.  Knowing exactly where to look for items, can make outfit planning more fun and less tedious.

I hope these “Style Guide” tips will help you organize your winter wear.
