This spring I have been enjoying playing with color. Not only have I tried different colors, but I have even become adventurous, and started experimenting with different color combinations. Pairing different colors can be tricky, but thank goodness, there are a few fashion guides, to help us all make sure we don’t give our well intentioned outfits a clown suit appearance. If you are sometimes unsure about putting different colors together in an outfit, hopefully this post will be of some help. Today, I’m sharing a few basic guidelines that I think will have you mixing and matching colors like a style pro.
Here are a few color combining How To’s:
Combine Complimentary Colors – When thinking of complimentary colors, keep in mind that does not mean matching colors, in most cases, it means combining opposite colors that complement each other. Think about the saying “opposites attract” like the color pairing black and white. These colors works so well together because they are total opposites but they complement each other perfectly.
Pair Different Shades Of The Same Color – Different shades of the same color always work well. You can try the ombre’ test. Do a Google image search for ombre’ (insert your color here) and see what comes up. If it is a good pairing you will likely find an ombre’ item with color combinations. This will also give you a good visual of how the colors will look together.
Use A Print As Your Guide – Find a print with various color combinations (like a scarf) that appeals to you, and create an outfit color palette using colors from that print or pattern.
Turn To The Old Faithful Black and White – If you get stuck trying different color combinations, you can always turn to the old faithful black and white, which we know works great together, and add a pop of color. Any pop of color paired with black and white will make for a perfect color mix.
Combining colors can be fun, especially with a few simple guidelines to follow to build your color palette. I hope you can use this tips to help you easily put some color into your outfits.
The BR eyelet top in this post is perfect for spring time. It’s airy and classic look can easily be paired with jeans, trousers or a skirt. I found this Express skirt, and could not decide on the color (it also comes in black and a bright blue). I went with the coral, so I could see if I would like it paired with pink on me. The Schutz Laser Cut Shootie (shoes) are making another appearance on the blog, so that gives you an idea of how much I love them. There are only a few sizes left, but the other shoe options in the post are also great. My blush crossbody bag is a staple in my closet. It can be paired with anything, and it’s so convenient when you only need a smaller bag.
