If you’ve been following my blog since its launch, by now, you probably have some idea of my style, and you may even have picked up on hints of my favorite fashion era.  Like most people, as I evolved, so did my style, and I now find that I can never get enough of the fabulous feminine glam of the fifties, which is truly my favorite fashion era.  The lady like silhouettes, and classic styles created by the likes of Coco Chanel, and worn by style icon Jackie O during this era, seem to always provide some inspiration to my style.  Even when dressing casual, and incorporating a few trends I like, I try to find ways to incorporate a little of my favorite era in my outfit.  Whether it’s an A-line skirt combined with an on trend shoe, or trendy denim paired with a classic pump, there seems to be some thread of my favorite era woven into my style.  The thing I love most about 50’s era fashion is that it transcends all styles, there is something for everyone and even the modern and trendy woman of today can find style inspiration in this era.  So, which fashion era is your favorite?  Here’s a quick overview of a few well known fashion era’s to help you identify your style inspiration.

    Which Fashion Era Are You?

The 20’s – There is one word to describe this era “Flappers.” The 20’s era did away with corsets, and ushered in short skirts and boyish trousers, along with unfitted dresses and the handkerchief hemline. Sparkles, embellished gowns, and headbands were all the rage. If this era feels like home to you, try adding a shapeless frock dress, off the shoulder slinky dress, or a breezy skirt to your look to add a touch of the unrestricted look of the 20’s.

The 30’s – This era was all about a sleek and feminine look. Think the sophistication of Greta Garbo with silky, slinky fabrics. Calf length dresses with empire waistlines and fluttery sleeves were also highlights of this fashion era. Try the 30’s style glamour today by adding a silky lightweight dress, with a fitted or ruched waist for a sleek and soft appearance.

The 40’s – The fashions of the 40’s ranged from the utilitarian look to very glam. It provided a good mix of comfort and high style. Fur was very popular, as were animal prints. The color palette of the 40’s was very bright and colorful. To easily add in a little of a 40’s look, incorporate animal print or fur into your outfit for that 40’s glam feel. You can also add a pencil skirt and/or a cropped jacket for a more a structured 40’s look.

The 50’s – This was the era of perceived domestication and very lady-like silhouettes. The waist lines were high, and the skirts were full…. Think Mad Men style. To incorporate a little 50’s style in your look, go for a full A-line skirt with a fitted bustier top, or fitted sweater. Also try the full skater midi dress style, that pairs the fitted bodice and the full skirt all in one piece.

A great thing about all of these fashion era’s is that there are ways to incorporate them into your looks today, while also fitting in with today’s style. It’s all about finding style inspiration in the era that is most appealing to you, and looking for ways to add pieces of that era into your outfits.

I hope you found your favorite fashion era and style inspiration. Feel free to share your favorite era in the comments area below. I would love to hear from you!
