Sweater Dressing: How To Style A Sweater Dress

Sweaters of any kind are always fall’s number one staple, and this fall, the sweater dress is leading the pack.  As full-on sweater weather nears for all of us, mixing up your sweater dressing with one of fall’s hottest trends, a sweater dress, is sure to add a different spin to your sweater style this season.  Sweater dresses are cozy and chic, and they are great for creating an easy, one-piece outfit.

For this look, I wore my Vero Moda Cable Knitted Sweater Dress from ASOS, with my Ann Taylor Kristi Perforated Leather Booties, and my Leopard Calf Hair Tote from The Limited.  I added my Express Tortoise Cat Eye Round Sunglasses when needed.  I absolutely love this dress because it combines the classic look of cable knit with a semi- loose fit in my favorite length, the midi length.  The neutral booties, and pop of print with the leopard tote kept a somewhat clean and classic look throughout the outfit.

Because styling is always key to being able to extend the wear of any look to almost anywhere, in today’s “Style Guide”,  I thought it would be a good idea to share just a few quick suggestions on how to style a sweater dress.

Add An Over The Knee Boot:  When wearing a shorter length sweater dress, add an over the knee boot for a sleek and chic feel that takes the look from day to evening.

Add A Belt:  If you’re not a fan of the all knit look, but love the functionality of a sweater dress, add a belt with some texture or shine to break up the knit, while adding instant style to the outfit.

Layer With A Trench Or Blazer:  Depending on the length of your sweater dress, you can also break up the knit with a blazer or leather jacket layered over a shorter length sweater dress or a classic trench over a longer or calf length sweater dress.

Pair With An Ankle Boot Or Pump:  For a fashionable and sophisticated look, pair your sweater dress with a neutral ankle boot or pointed toe pump to take you from desk to dinner.
