IMG_3214.jpgWhen putting together a casual outfit, or any outfit, it’s normal to sometimes want to spice it up, and try different color trends, but it’s not always an easy thing to do if you are most comfortable wearing neutrals and basic colors.  Sometimes, when styling an outfit, adding color is all that is needed to freshen up a look and make it stand out.  I have been personally playing around with this styling area, and today I’m sharing a few things I’ve learned about making outfits more interesting with color.

Tips For Adding Color To Your Outfit:

    1.  Start With A Firm Foundation – The foundation or base of your outfit includes classic, tailored pieces, like jackets, blazers, skirts, or pants.

    2.  Add An Accent – Accent pieces are generally not as expensive as investment items like foundation pieces, and they provide a nice smooth transition to the pop of color.  The accent piece can be a top, sweater or dress that is a print or bright color.  These are pieces that may be slightly trendy, but can easily be paired with more classic items in your wardrobe.

IMG_3188.jpg3.  Put In That Pop Of Color – This is often where most of us have a problem.  Deciding what color and where to add the color can be confusing.  A pop of color is what adds flavor to your outfit, and makes it stand out, so any color you choose can work.  To make it easy to put in a pop of color, make sure the accent piece and the pop of color are related or compliment each other nicely.  Also, try tying in the pop of color in your accessories to pull the outfit together, and to ensure a smooth transition throughout the look.

In my look, I started with the white boyfriend blazer, as my foundation.  I love the look and functionality of this blazer, because it can be worn as a casual or more dressed piece.  It is very versatile, and it can easily go from work to play on any day.

My accent piece is the striped peplum tank top worn underneath the blazer.  This fairly inexpensive piece is an easy transition piece to my pop of color because of the stripes.  This tank is so soft, and it is a piece that can be worn with a dress pant, jeans or even shorts.

IMG_3200.jpgThe pops of color in my look of course are the shoes and bag.  The caged sandal is very comfortable, and it can be worn well with a dress, skirt, and cropped pant.  The handbag is perfect for almost any outfit or occasion, because it can be worn on the shoulder or as a crossbody bag.  It’s large enough to carry all of the essentials, and it’s patent texture gives it an extra pop.

I hope this information provided a few simple guidelines for helping you easily add a pop of color to your outfits.
